Multiple Types Of Heart Attacks Reduced By Prasugrel In TRITON-TIMI 38 Trial
Investigators from the Phase III TRITON-TIMI 38 study applied the new classification system for the Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction to the results of the study and showed that patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and taking prasugrel, as compared with patients taking clopidogrel (Plavix(R)/Iscover(R)), experienced reduced risk of heart attack regardless of heart-attack type (procedural related or spontaneous), size or timing over a 15-month period. The new Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction (1) was developed in 2007 by the Joint European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation Task Force. Why Does Eczema Often Lead To Asthma?
Many young children who get a severe skin rash develop asthma months or years later. Doctors call the progression from eczema, or atopic dermatitis, to breathing problems the atopic march. In this week"s issue of PLoS Biology, scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis report another step taken towards understanding the process of atopic march. Their findings show that a substance that is secreted by damaged skin can circulate through the body and trigger asthmatic symptoms in laboratory mice when exposed to eczema-causing or dermatitis-causing agents, also known as allergens . The researchers suggest that early treatment of skin rash and inhibition of the trigger substance might block asthma development in young patients with eczema.

Rural Doctors Welcome Recognition Of Rural And Regional Health By Rudd Government, Australia

The Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA) says the establishment of the new Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery portfolio and the appointment of Warren Snowdon MP as the new Minister is recognition of the significant problems that Australians who live in the bush have in accessing health care services. Australians who live in rural and remote areas suffer from poorer health outcomes compared to their city counterparts. They live shorter lives, have higher rates of cardiovascular disease, poorer cancer survival rates, higher suicide rates and many find it difficult to access even basic health services. "The Rudd governmentò€Ÿs recognition of regional and rural health as a separate portfolio is very welcome by rural Australia and the RDAA looks forward to working with the Minister Snowdon to continue the work that has started in addressing the health disadvantages suffered by families who live in the bush" RDAA CEO, Steve Sant, said. "Having a Minister who lives the bush and understands the problems that communities face in accessing quality health care will be a great advantage for rural communities. "We also welcome the additional recognition that indigenous health has received in this ministerial reshuffle.
